OHHHHH!!
The end of the semester....
I hear everybody shouting "I've done!!!!."
I wanna shout back "I haven't yet!!!."
I am editing a movie now. That movie is called "Beat Fanatic."
This movie starts with the director’s prologue about beat language, while in the background, an example of beat language plays.
The first scene starts with the phone ringing in BP’s, (main character) room. The ringing will be a beatbox sound. BP gets the phone and starts talking with his friends, TD and KeN who are supposed to come to his house. BP gives them direction from the station to his house.
TD and Ken walk to BP’s home while chatting. They get to in front of my house and push a bell. BP let them in and treat them coke.
BP sits on the big chair in front of his desk for DTM (Desk Top Music). TD and Ken sit on the floor and relax. BP starts talking about his audio project entry for the music competition. He shows it to Ken and TD and asks what they think about it. They criticize it and give him the feed back. They suggest that BP needs to turn up the gain of the low frequency and to compress the middle frequency sound. BP looks for a way to fight back against their opinion. But they keep criticizing the song. BP asks them what this song’s good points are. Ken answers there is no good point as long as he doesn’t change the beat itself. TD suggests that it is better to overdub the beatbox on that. BP asked them to demonstrate to see what it would be like. Ken starts beatboxing and TD makes the rhythm with the beat machine. They jam for a while.
After 2 weeks, BP got a mail from the organization which held the music competition. It says “You win. This is PRIZE MONEY.” A few days later, TD and Ken come to his house as usual and find the paper envelope with the prize money on his desk. They ask him how much they can have. BP just laughs at the end.
I' ve almost done. I'll show you soon!!

The CYPHER

The "Cypher" is many musicians, especially rapper and beat boxers, gather together and jam. Everything is inprovised on the spot.
This movement started in New York in mid 80's and came to Japan later in late 90's. The "Japan Cypher" has become popular very recently.
I sometimes go join the cypher when I feel bored staying my home.
AND EXPRESS MY FEELING WITH BEEEEEEAT!!!
This is what I recorded recently on AZABU street. Check this out!!

Voice in Mind

I made a new song. As you know from the title, I make sounds
with only VOICE. Of course, I use a lot of effects in the CUBASE VST
plug in but original sound is all from my voice. The concept of this song
is "dilemma".
What I express here is twoconflicts that disturbe what I want to
think or do. I really don't knowwhat they are. I am shouting in both low tone
and high tone in the song. heck this out!

The list of parks in TOKYO.

If you are musitian. You definitely need a place to practice.
Of course you can practice at your house, if you are pianist
or guitarist. But if you are saxophonist or drummer, you can
not play intruments at your house. I am drummer, and I always
practice in Yoyogi park. Yoyogi park is the best if you, musician,
want to practice playing music. However, there are more parks in
Tokyo than you think.
This entry is for the musicians who want to know which park is available
to play their instruments.

1, Shiba Park
2, Shinjuku-Goen
3, Arisugawa park
4, Kiba park
5, Senjidai park

Tokyo vs Kyoto

Tokyo and Kyoto...
East capital and west capital...
Which do you think is a real Japan?
It is sure that both are part of Japan. But what I am asking here is that which seems more like Japan in terms of beauty.
I think Kyoto have preserved a lot of Japanese treasure which keeps Kyoto city aesthetic and consistent such as old architecture, temples, shrines, food and lots of nature.
I think it is important for people, mainly local people, to preserve their own city in order to protect Japanese beauty
that Japanese people have built up over thousands of year.
How about Tokyo? Although it seems, of course, convenient and efficient, it is incoherent as we see from the appearance
. We can not see any of scenery Edo people was seeing.
That's what I wondered on the train today...
TUJ Film Festival in 2007
We finally finished a TUJ film festival 2007!!
Through this course, I learnt a lot of things about film. What we did in this course were, basically, gathering people for entry, evaluating films of students, putting subtitles with a software called Final Cut Pro, and finally, presenting those films. Especially, I put much effort into making subtitles and correcting them. I don’t remember how many times we checked and corrected them over and over. Since I am not native English speaker, I had to have my translation checked by native speakers. The expression of English and Japanese is sometimes totally different, even if we mean to say the same thing. So I tried hard to make them more natural and smooth.
The advantage of this course for me was that I learnt how to put the subtitles with Final Cut Pro. It made my motivation about film higher than I expected before taking this course. Also, it was helpful to put subtitles of my film in another class. Overall, I was really satisfied with this class.

incoherent city TOKYO

Donald Richie says, in "TOKYO the Impermanent Capital", that Tokyo looks like western in its appearance, but the city function is completely different. He says Tokyo is more incoherent, incongruous and arbitrary than Westerns think. In a modern Western city, many shops are welded together as a unit. But in Tokyo, these shops are all independent and unattached to the other. I think the same way with him. Sometimes, Tokyo makes me feel out of place like foreigner first coming to Japan. Because there are few places we can have a rest and relax. It is sure that Tokyo is really convenient when you have something to do with your friends, familly, boyfriends. But if you are alone and have nothing to do, it is useless and wasteful to be in Tokyo. For me, I would rather sleep and play on the green bed than play around concrete jungle such as Roppngi, Shibuya, Shinnjuku. There are many big parks in Tokyo like Yoyogi Park, Sinnjiku Gyoenn, and Hibiya Park. However, small parks are getting declined year by year for the construction of new buildings. In Nishiazabu, 2 parks were already closed this year. I think this is terrible situation. This decline of parks deprives children of their playground. As a result, they end up playing inside like videogame, TV, Internet.
So, I think Tokyo has to have more green area.

TATAMI

Tatami(畳) is Japanese traditional flooring made of woven straw. Tatami has really old history. It is inscribed even in the oldest book called “Kojiki”(古事記). Tatami was originally a luxury item for the wealthy people at a time when lower class people had mat covered dirty floor. Tatami mats are associated with Japanese rites and rituals or with tea ceremony. Most modern Japanese homes still have one tatami room. It is also used for training for martial arts like Judo, Kendo, Aikido, Iaido, and so on. When I was in high school, there are some martial arts clubs. And we used to practice Judo on Tatami room.
As I described, Tatami is strongly related with tea ceremony. This tea convention developed in Edo period. And at this time, the Japanese sitting position called “SEIZA (正座)” became popular. Also, in this period, Tatami institution called “Tatami Bugyou” was established to make the Tatami for administrative institution such as “Siro”(城) or “Tera”(寺) and the Tatami became more fundamental for Japanese people. So there were many Tatami craftsmen in that period and the technique was handed down from master to student.
But nowadays, due to the change in Japanese life style, the number of real Tatami craftsmen is declining rapidly. Moreover, even ordinary interior companies start selling Tatami which is made easily by machine. They can make 30 tatamis in a day with machine, while the craftsmen can only make 10 tatamis at maximum.
But there are still some traditional Tatami stores which is run by real craftsman. There are lots of them mainly in Shitamachi where there are still many Japanese style houses.
I really like Tatami. Everytime I go to my grandma’s house, I put a futon on Tatami room (和室) and sleep. Once I enter the room, the atmosphere suddenly changed and I can relax. Sleeping on tatami, that is the most wonderful time in grandma’s house.
